Last summer a client came by with his daughter. They walked into the studio
and the little girl introduced herself, she said "I'm Natasha, I am 7 years
old, and I want to be a glass artist". She wanted to commission a tile with
a picture in glass. I explained that an artist should not copy something
someone else had created, however, if she would create an original drawing,
I would produce the glass tile. The very next day she returned to the
studio with a crayon on paper towel drawing of a tree with a sky background
for the landscape and a cute imaginative friend in the scene. Attempting to
treat her as I would any commission client, we discussed size and pallet
choices and agreed on a production schedule. The following weekend, en route
to summer camp, she stopped by the studio to pick up her tile. The absolute
joy and glee in this young child's eyes when she held up her creation in
glass will stay with me for a long time.
