This past spring a young high school girl stopped by my studio. Caitlin
introduced herself and explained she had designed and made her prom gown for
the upcoming event. She asked if I would create a pair of glass earrings to
accompany her outfit. After discussing colors, gown fabric and earring
preferences, we agreed on a schedule and a price. The following week
several women stopped by the studio curious about these glass earrings. The
first wanted to pay for Caitlin's earrings, the second was Caitlin's mother
who had also heard about the commission. The earrings were ready on Saturday
and a young man came by to pick them up for Caitlin, prom was that very
evening.
I was disappointed not to see Caitlin but I was pleased with the earrings,
they turned out beautiful. The following morning, on Sunday, before I
opened the studio doors a truck pulled up in the drive and out jumps Caitlin
carrying her prom dress and wearing her earrings! Amazingly, she had
stopped by to show me her prom dress and say thank you.
